KSEF presents the 23rd Annual High School Scholarship Awards Luncheon with Founder Thomas Motley, Lillie Motley and Carrington Motley
KSEF presents the 23rd Annual High School Scholarship Awards Luncheon with Founder Thomas Motley, Lillie Motley and Carrington Motley

This year is the 23rd year presenting talented high school students with financial assistance to help pursue their life's dreams. This year's class of awardees collectively received scholarships valued at well over $400,000. Students will receive four year, full academic scholarships to both Robert Morris and Penn State Universities. Our efforts and work position us as one of the premier scholarship organizations in the region if not the nation.

One of the highlights of our work is the opportunity to conduct face to face interviews with each one of our award winners. These are some of America's best and brightest and they are all products of the Pittsburgh Community. We should all be proud.

Clyde Wilson Pickett, M.Ed. was our keynote speaker. He is an Educator, Diversity Professional, Activist, Author and Cultural Commentator. His work covers topics such as diversity, leadership development, cooperative communication, cultural competence, community and civility. Mr. Pickett currently serves as the Special Assistant to the President for Diversity Inclusion at the Community College of Allegheny County.

The Kappa Scholarship Endowment Fund (KSEF), was the brainchild of Mr. Thomas A. Motley, Sr., the past Polemarch of the Pittsburgh Alumni Chapter. The Fund was created as the philanthropic arm of the the Pittsburgh Alumni Chapter of Kppa Alpha Psi, Inc., and to offer financial assistance via scholarships and awards to needy African American males at the secondary, undergraduate and graduate levels. It received 501(c)3  status in July 1991.

During his tenure, Mr. Motley appointed Earl F. Hord to chair the Fund's formation committee and charged him with the responsibility of submitting and filing the necessary application materials for the establishment of the KSEF. With the assistance of Attorney James E. Ford, the infrastructure for the Fund was established.

The Fund serves as a focal point of financial and human resources to the African American male while making the Fraternity a more prominent force in the communtiy, Since it's inception, recipients of scholarships and financial awards have excelled academically and continue to develop their skills to be competitive in the 21st Century.  To foster it's mission to provide philanthropic support through academic scholarships to high school seniors, the Fund has partnered with Robert Morris University and recenty Penn State University to target a broader pool of talented African American students. In addition, the Fund offers the Marcus P. Blakemore Undergratuate Award to talented undergraduate Kappa Alpha Psi members.
