| Ongoing Projects: | The mission of the JLP signature project EVERYBODY WINS! is to pair elementary school students with volunteers who read aloud to a child once a week. To date 58 volunteer reading partners participate in the lunchtime literacy program at Martin Luther King, Junior Elementary School. A partnership with Weil Technical Institute begins in January 2005. The JLP has also added two new partnerships. SAFETY KIDS INC. provides Safety Kids Camps to teach children (grades 1-5) how to protect themselves from abduction, abuse, victimization, and accidents. The PROVIDENCE TEEN PROGRAM will launch a pilot program for teenagers to provide developmental, social and recreational activities for youths ages 12-16 in Marshall-Shadeland and surrounding neighborhoods. The DONE IN A DAY committee continues to serve the community by organizing and implementing “one day” project events. |
