Guests gathered at the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, North Side on Saturday, April 24th for Pittsburgh's Premiere Cake Decorating and Tasting Contest, Let Them Eat Cake! The contest was a benefit for The Midwife Center for Birth & Women's Health. Over the past five years, this event has grown to be an important fundraiser for The Midwife Center's high qulaity and unique services. The theme for the 2010 Let Them Eat Cake! event was "Five to Grow On," in celebration of the event's fifth anniversary. Entrants were asked to bake and decorate their cakes in a way that was inspired by the number 5 and/or new life and growth. This could be interpreted literally, such as using five flavors, or colors, or figuratively, such as planting seeds of change, or growing children and families.
Expert judges rated the cakes just before the event. Their votes were tallied during the event to determine the "Judge's Awards" for Professionally Decorated and Taste cakes and the Amateur Decorated and Taste Cakes. Judging was based on three criteria for each category. Everyone at the event also got to vote for the "People's Choice Awards" for Best Decorated and Taste Cakes. Guests throroughly enjoyed this feature of the event!
Since The Midwife Center became an independent, nonprofit organization in 2000, they have successfully provided quality, personalized care to hundreds of local women and families spanning all socioeconomic levels. To make a donation to the center please visit www.midwifecenter.org With continued support from our friends and donors, we will continue to improve our tangible resources and strengthen our message of the advantages of a birthing center to all potential clients in the greater Pittsburgh area.
